  • As a home gardener, how do I strike cuttings or germinate seeds from plants in my garden?
Bottom heat is recommended to increase your success rate. Sage has a variety of sizes of heat trays with or without thermostats to suit all budgets.
  • What type of growing mix do I use to put my cuttings or seeds in?
Sage has specially formulated general purpose mixes for both propagation and seed raising. Our Propagation mix includes: Perlite and coconut fibre. Our Seed Raising mix includes: Sand, fine bark, perlite and coco peat. These two unique blends are designed for maximum water drainage and aeration and are pH neutral.
  • Why doesn’t my heat propagation tray feel hot to touch?
Although the propagator may not feel very warm, you must bear in mind that the human body temperature is around 37 deg.C, and your heat tray which is ideally set around 22-25 deg. C, will feel cooler than your hand to the touch. If you would like to check the temperature of your growing medium, we have soil/propagating thermometers available.
  • What is the recommended height when setting up the misting system with Sage Mist Jets?
The minimum recommended height of the spray above the plants is 500mm. Maximum height – up to as high as possible.
  • Do I need a Check Valve, and how do I install it in my Sage Mist Jet?
A check valve is required when mist jets are inverted (facing downwards) overhead to stop dripping. To install a check valve in your mist jet, remove filter from base, insert check valve and replace filter.
  • I have check valves installed in my Mist Jets but they are still dripping when turned off is there something wrong with them?.
You may have air in your lines. When installing mist jets with the anti drip valve, it is important to terminate each line with a small gate valve or ball valve to enable the lines to be bled of any air that may be in the lines. Bleed the air from your lines by operating the solenoid valve manually via the controller, and at the same time open the valve at the end of the mist line to let all of the air out. When you are sure that the air has been bled, turn off the gate or ball valve and then turn off the solenoid. If there is no drip from the mist sprays you know that you have cleared all the air. If you find later on the misters drip again, you will need to repeat the air bled procedure as it is possible air can enter the system from your main supply.
  • What water pressure do I require to operate Sage Mist Jets?
We recommend you operate your mist system with water pressure of 50 psi minimum and up to 100 psi. If your water pressure is under 50 psi (3.4 bar), then we would recommend a pressure pump be installed, for further information please contact us.
